App-only franchise arrives

The march toward optimal labour conditions has continued, with a major franchise introducing an outlet that only accepts purchases via its smart phone app.

With labour cost and compliance a major concern for all franchise owners, the emergence of absolute self-service models is driving interest throughout the entire industry.

At the end of last month, 7-Eleven launched its first cashless and cardless concept store in Australia. Located in the busy inner Melbourne suburb of Richmond, the trailblazer conducts all sales via single portal – the franchise’s app.

Customers simply scan items via the app on their phone, before the transaction is finalised via the pre-registered payment details.

The technology has the obvious advantage of cutting down on labour costs and increasing display space, given there is no physical check-out. Staff can also be deployed in a proactive manner, providing genuine customer service and promoting sales.
